The O’Neills trio formed around 2007 and take their name from the tome where much of their music originates, O’ Neill’s Music of Ireland. While their repertoire is firmly in the lands of the Celts, i.e., Ireland, Scotland, England, & Brittany, influences from Scandinavia, the US, and even Canada fill out their playlist. Their music rarely offends but they were once run out of a never-to-be-named town in Alberta (true story). If not instruments in their hands, it is canoe paddles or beers…

David Locky
David L. is an O’Neills fiddler, tenor banjo, and mandolin player. During the day he is a biology professor at MacEwan University. He hails from Elora in southern Ontario. David has a propensity to break fiddle bows and dishes (see below re the former and don’t ask his wife about the latter). When David’s not playing stringed instruments he is playing the Great Highland Bagpipes and Scottish Smallpipes wherever they’ll let him in the door. Dave has recently introduced a hardanger fiddle into his stable of instruments!
Eric Gormley
Along with some singing, Eric plays the acoustic and electric guitars for the O’Neills and was recently an instructor at Norquest College; he is now practicing the good life through early retirement. Eric hails from the Ottawa area in Ontario and plays the same guitar he bought when he was 16 years old, complete with duck tape.
Yves Le Guevel
Yves is an old friend of the O’Neills who is our newest member! He is a brilliant fiddler expert on the accordion, the latter which he collects, and has a lovely voice. From Brittany, he has also lived in Quebec and brings all of those traditions with him. He currently in competition with David L. for largest number of chapeaus; David is winning but it’s getting close!
Retired: David Woods
David W. was an O’Neills fiddler and viola player and occasional singer but his name provides a clue to his real job: carpenter and bow maker — and he does a fine job with fiddle repairs. He hails from various parts of Europe and Canada and is bilingual. David once dropped his favourite fiddle into a lake — it is no longer his favourite. David left the band in 2018.
